Day 3

The first two photos are for my food-conscious children.  You know who you are!

Our food buffets for breakfast and dinner are fantastic.

This day, we travelled to the northern area of Israel, to Tel Dan.  The word, Tel, is used for a place where multiple civilizations have built cities on top of ruins of older cities.  The tribe of Dan was given this region.  It is a very fertile region which includes the headwaters of the Jordan River.

We gather to hear a teaching on some of the sites.

The following photo is of a gate to a city near where Abraham chased the people who captured Lot. It is called Abraham's gate because he most likely walked through it.  It is a relatively new excavation.  You can see the archeologists on top of the structure.

This is a model of what the gate would have looked like in Abraham's time.
The Grotto of pagan god Pan
This photo above is of the place of worship of Pan, the god of the shepherds.  Statues of the god were placed in the large niche, other icons in the smaller niches.
